RESOURCES:

There are multiple sources of help for Veterans & Active Duty personnel. We link to  just a few for your consideration.

NAMI National’s Veterans & Active Duty Resources Page

Nearly 1 in 4 active duty members showed signs of a mental health condition, according to a 2014 study in JAMA Psychiatry. On this page we focus on questions that military personnel often ask, concerning treatment resources, disclosure and staying healthy during the transition to civilian life.

NAMI Home Front is a free, 6-session educational program for families, caregivers and friends of military service members and vets with mental health conditions.  Though not currently offered by NAMIGlendale, please check with the other LA County affiliates to find the nearest class in the region. The class is also offered online. Visit the link above to NAMI Home Front to sign up for an online class.

ASSISTED LIVING BENEFITS FOR VETERANS GUIDE, is an online guide provided by the Assisted Living Research Center. “In order to raise awareness and provide advocacy tools, our team of medical professionals created a comprehensive guide specifically for veterans living with disabilities to learn and understand their assisted living options. This guide breaks down the care options that are available, financial support to help pay for the care needed and resources that are available from each state.”

NAMI Partner Programs

NAMI partner programs like Military One Source and Make the Connection provide much-needed help for veterans and for those who treat them and their families.

Military One Source: Mental Health & Substance Abuse  website
“Mental health is just as important for military and family readiness as physical fitness. While Military OneSource does not provide health care services, it does point members of the military family to the resources available to help. If you or someone you know is in crisis, contact the Military Crisis Line at 800-273-8255, then press 1, or access online chat by texting 838255.”
